Who Needs Shredder Experts ?
The quick answer is almost
everyone…..ranging from the miscellaneous mail and records most of us
have at home to any public or private company or institution dealing with
everyday business such as payroll data, personnel files, customer lists, financial
statements, bank statements, competitive price comparisons, R&D reports,
sales reports, forecasts, marketing plans, or patients’ medical information.
THEFT, VANDALISM, AND INDUSTRIAL ESPIONAGE are becoming ever increasing security
problems. Florida was ranked 6th in Identity Theft cases, according to the
Federal Trade Commission. The Attorney General’s office in Florida warns
that business owners have a responsibility to their customers and their employees
to protect personal identification information. With proper data collection
and measures to safeguard that information, companies can minimize the risk
of customers’ and employees’ personal information falling into
the wrong hands. The Attorney General also says that businesses must Shred
or destroy documents and records containing personal identifying information
when you dispose of them.
Customer Benefits
If your organization’s records were to fall into the wrong hands, the result could be measured from embarrassment to catastrophic loss of assets. Without a program to control this problem, the daily trash of every business and organization contains information that could be harmful. While you may or may not end up in court for neglectfully violating privacy laws, the public relations’ damage could cost even more. Federal courts have ruled that once it is in the trash it is fair game to anyone wanting it. Why take that risk?
By taking advantage of our service:
*No
need to purchase expensive equipment
*No maintenance expenses
*No lost employee time
*No plastic bags to buy
*Increased security
*No need to prepare records for destruction
by removing
metal and plastics
*Peace of mind that your documents are
safe while you store
them and will be recycled once destroyed!
Summary
We have
all seen numerous local governmental agencies like courts and police using
restitution workers or community service probationers to shred confidential
documents. Accounting firms, medical offices, and others have used high school
kids and part-time help. We’ve seen people violate state law by burning
records in the open and we have seen them dumped in the trash and at land-fills.
Mini warehouses abound with boxes of confidential records piled in a leaky,
unsafe, pest infested space. The U.S. Secret Service wants to make all Americans
aware of the increase in criminal activity involving “identity theft”
and the FBI says that corporate espionage in causing the loss of billions
of dollars to American businesses each year.
News reports tell us where people have profited financially by obtaining our
phone credit cards, checking account and other confidential information to
commit identity theft. Corporate fraud and espionage is the greatest threat
to large and small businesses as their own employees walk off with sensitive
information, only for it to show up on the evening news or at trial. It is
this ever present risk that led to the development of the information destruction
industry. As in any business, there are cheap ones and good ones. We don’t
expect everyone to use our services. What we ask, is that you visit the other
company’s facilities and ask important questions before deciding which
company to trust with your confidential records. A few pennies saved now can
turn into thousand of dollars if that trust is betrayed. Thank you for your
time!
On-Site or Off-Site Shredding?
Shredder Experts is proud to offer all of our customers Off-Site destruction. But we also want all of our customers to be well informed about this service. Here are a few statements that our customers frequently make, and we wanted to share them so that you may have a complete understanding of the pros and cons of shredding.
* I don’t want my documents to leave my premises for security
reasons.
* I want on-site shredding services because I want to watch the shredding
being done.
* I think it is safer to have the shredding done at my office, because I don’t
know or trust where it goes if it leaves my premises.
Do you or an employee of your company watch the shredding
process if you have elected on-site shredding? If you do not, why is it more
secure at your facility than ours? If you do, do you really know what you
are watching? Florida law does not require on-site shredding.
The Enron scandal created a myth that all shredded paper
can be pieced back together. Enron’s attorneys were able to piece the
paper together because the shredding was done in isolated shredders into an
isolated container. Only Enron’s documents were shredded, therefore
it simply became a large puzzle to piece back together. This is impossible
with Shredder Experts’ “closed loop” off-site shredding.
Why? Off-site shredding ensures that all of your confidential documents are
mixed with thousands of pounds of other customers’ documents. With our
off-site service, your documents are picked up, placed into a locked container,
locked up into a secure truck, transported to a secure facility; shredded
immediately and finally baled to ensure ultimate security. The bales are held
in our secure warehouse until they are sent directly to the paper mill. The
liability of those documents passes to us with a simple work order signed
by the customer at the time of pickup. Most vendors that only offer on-site
shredding, do not bale the shredded paper. They have to dump it at a recycling
facility where there are no background or drug testing required for their
employees. What if something small such as a check passed through the shredding
teeth of the on-site vendor? It happens all the time with any shredder. At
our facility, we have the ability to retrieve the document and shred it immediately
to ensure confidentiality; on-site trucks can only dump the full load which
compromises the security of your documents.
Off-site shredding services are also more cost effective
than on-site services. If you do witness your on-site shredding, have you
done the cost analysis for the wages and benefits you are adding to the shredding
services? Once again, Shredder Experts wants you to understand that we want
you to get the best value for your dollar, because, a happy, informed customer
is our best asset!!
